Carlos Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

May 23, 2008 by teamempire

I am in Dallas Texas, training with 8th Degree Black Belt Carlos Machado. It is an intensive 4 day training camp on all aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

It is always amazing to be on the mat with an instructor of Carlos Machado’s caliber. Thursday started with a basic class where Carlos shared his innovative training methods of sequencing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Students with a few days to 12 months experience were all learning the details that makes the Machado method so unique. All the students were excited at the end of the class and got a great workout as well as learned great details of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

We then proceeded to the advanced class which was comprised of Blue to Black Belts. Carlos shared some simple adjustments to some fundamental techniques. He then progressed through various positions making little changes to solidify everyones skill sets. We then went into sparring rounds where we tried to implement the new techniques Carlos shared with us. It was a fantastic learning experience, I walked away with a lot of new knowledge as well as new friends. There is nothing like training Jiu Jitsu with someone to develop camaraderie.

I am getting ready for another day of training with Carlos. I am looking forward to sharing all the knowledge, drills and techniques with the Team Empire students.

I look forward to seeing you all soon

What Do We Teach?

May 11, 2008 by teamempire

Brazilian Jiu Jiu Jitsu Albany NY

At Empire Martial Arts, we teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai – Thai Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. At the core of our grappling system is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Specifically the Carlos Machado System. (Carlos is a nephew of Gracie Jiu Jitsu founder Carlos Gracie and holds the rank of 8th Degree Black belt)

Carlos Machado is unique in that he teaches a standardized curriculum through Black Belt. One of his most famous Black Belts is action Movie and TV star Chuck Norris.

Now back to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it is a grappling art that was popularized in America by the legendary Gracie family. The Machado brothers are cousins to the Gracie family and grew up in Brazil learning the family system of Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu-Jitsu concentrates on dominating your opponent by using angles, leverage, and superior body positioning to control an opponent’s body movement. A person that has a superior position is in a better situation to apply a finishing hold or to start striking. This style allows for a smaller person to defeat a much larger attacker. Jiu-Jitsu is excellent for women who are often taken to the ground during assaults.

We recommend this style for men, women, and children looking for a great workout and realistic self-defense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is similar and, in some cases, both supplementary and complementary to the Olympic Sport of Judo. In our curricula, we believe that it is not only important to control our opponent on the ground, but also on our feet. Therefore, we have taken the proactive approach of marrying the arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling.

We would like to offer you the opportunity to experience our program and  see for yourself the great benefits and results other adults just like you have achieved.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
