What Do We Teach?

Brazilian Jiu Jiu Jitsu Albany NY

At Empire Martial Arts, we teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai – Thai Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. At the core of our grappling system is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Specifically the Carlos Machado System. (Carlos is a nephew of Gracie Jiu Jitsu founder Carlos Gracie and holds the rank of 8th Degree Black belt)

Carlos Machado is unique in that he teaches a standardized curriculum through Black Belt. One of his most famous Black Belts is action Movie and TV star Chuck Norris.

Now back to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it is a grappling art that was popularized in America by the legendary Gracie family. The Machado brothers are cousins to the Gracie family and grew up in Brazil learning the family system of Jiu Jitsu.

Jiu-Jitsu concentrates on dominating your opponent by using angles, leverage, and superior body positioning to control an opponent’s body movement. A person that has a superior position is in a better situation to apply a finishing hold or to start striking. This style allows for a smaller person to defeat a much larger attacker. Jiu-Jitsu is excellent for women who are often taken to the ground during assaults.

We recommend this style for men, women, and children looking for a great workout and realistic self-defense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is similar and, in some cases, both supplementary and complementary to the Olympic Sport of Judo. In our curricula, we believe that it is not only important to control our opponent on the ground, but also on our feet. Therefore, we have taken the proactive approach of marrying the arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling.

We would like to offer you the opportunity to experience our program and  see for yourself the great benefits and results other adults just like you have achieved.
